Magical Mystery Tour

The Beatles released this album in 1967, just when they were beginning to explore richer and more complex sounds. It was an EP in the United Kingdom and an LP in the United States, with a little more songs in the American version. The idea was to accompany a television movie that also was called Magical Mystery Tour, a sort of magical bus trip with normal characters who lived adventures. The movie was not well received, but the music was.

About the album

Magical Mystery Tour, according to DoReSol

The album has a very characteristic sound of that time, with instrumentals, recorded vocals, and a mix of rock, psychedelia, and pop. The song Flying is the first instrumental by the Beatles, and it was also the first time that all the names appeared together as authors. On side 1 of the American LP, there is I Am the Walrus, a song that Paul wrote as a joke for fans who wanted to decipher every word.

The reception was good, especially in the United Kingdom, where it quickly entered the charts. In the United States, the version with more songs was released in November, and it sold quite well. Although the movie was not a success, the soundtrack was. The album was recorded in London studios, and the sound included both mono and stereo, something that was not common at that time.
