Fun facts

Beatles recorded All You Need Is Love in 1967, as a single without an album. The song was released in July, accompanied by Baby, You're a Rich Man on the B-side. It was written by John Lennon, and was credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. It was chosen by Britain for Our World, the first live global television link. The band performed it at EMI Studios, in London, on June 25. The satellite transmission reached over 400 million people in 25 countries.

The story behind

The Beatles recorded All You Need Is Love in June 1967, just before Brian Epstein, their manager, died. It was part of a live show that was first broadcast worldwide in a program called Our World. The event was so big that more than 400 million people watched it. The band performed in London, and the song became a universal anthem, beginning with the French hymn and mixing pieces of Bach, Greensleeves and In the Mood. John Lennon sang alone for a moment, while the others did the chorus. The song has an unusual rhythm, with 7/4 time signatures, something that wasn't used much before. The structure is complex, but the chorus is simple: "All You Need Is Love". The song was recorded in the Olympic studio, and released on the album Magical Mystery Tour, which also includes Baby, You're a Rich Man. It was a success in the United States and in England, reaching number one.
