The story behind
The Beatles wrote Penny Lane in 1967, a song that evokes a place from the childhood of Paul McCartney and John Lennon. It is the crossing of Penny Lane with Smithdown Road, in the suburbs of Liverpool. Buses passed there, there were shops and the church of St. Barnabas. It was a meeting place for the boys who went to the city center.
McCartney used to go there as a child, singing in the church choir. Lennon was also nearby, in a house just a few meters away. George Harrison, on the other hand, arrived by bus from Speke, passing through Penny Lane. The three of them met there to take the bus. The song does not speak of the street, but of the crossing, a place that marked their childhood. Today, the place remains part of the history, although some want to change its name for historical reasons.
