The story behind
The Beatles recorded "Blue Jay Way" in September 1967, during the recording of the album *Magical Mystery Tour*. The song was born from a casual moment: George Harrison was in California, and Derek Taylor, his press officer, got lost on Blue Jay Way street. While waiting, Harrison started writing the lyrics, and finished the song with a Hammond organ.
The recording had to be done in two days, with double vocals later. The mix includes flanger and differences between stereo and mono. The mono version was used in the *Magical Mystery Tour* film, while the 1990 remaster has the stereo version. At the end of the song, a cello is abruptly cut off — an idea that never materialized, but was left in the recording. The Beatles appear playing the instrument, but in reality it was a session musician.
