More about Vox Dei
Biography
In 1969 they recorded a single under the name of Mach 4. Later, after a show in a place called Macu, the producers offered them to record something for the label Mandioca, but with Spanish lyrics. So they decided to change their name to Vox Dei. In one of those performances, Luis Alberto Spinetta congratulated them, but didn't understand why they had a language to sing in and didn't use it. At that moment they translated the lyrics of *Bitter Sugar* to *Azúcar amargo*, which became one of their first songs.
The first album by Vox Dei came out in 1970, it was called *Caliente*. They recorded it with Mandioca and presented it along with bands like Almendra and Manal. In that album was *Presente (El momento en que estás)*, which became a hymn of Argentine music. There was also *Canción para una mujer (que no está)*, which also became famous. The album was presented at the Teatro Ópera de Buenos Aires, along with other groups, and they received good reviews.
In November 1970 they participated in the first B.A. Rock festival, where they played an advance of *La Biblia*, an conceptual album based on the Bible that came out a little later. The album was well received and became a milestone in Argentine rock.
