The story behind
The song Las guerras is no ordinary track: it is the piece that closes La Biblia, the second album by Vox Dei, and it does so with a thirteen-minute duration that doesn’t feel excessive. The song builds with an intensity that grows without pauses, as if each section propels the next without leaving room to breathe. It’s not just an epic closer, but a statement of intent: Argentine rock could be long, dense, and uncompromising, and Las guerras proved it in every measure.
The album was recorded in the autumn of 1970, just before the band solidified its most characteristic sound. Jorge Álvarez, the producer, gave the record a raw edge that contrasted with the polished arrangements of the time. When La Biblia was released to the public in March 1971, it already carried within it the seed of what Argentine rock would become in the years that followed. Rolling Stone magazine would remember it decades later, ranking it fourteenth on its list of the hundred best Argentine rock albums in 2007. But beyond rankings, what’s clear is that Las guerras wasn’t made to be a mere radio hit: it was built to endure, and so it did.
