Los Abuelos de la Nada

The Grandfathers of Nothing began in 1967 in Buenos Aires, when Miguel Abuelo and other young people gathered to play music. The band split after two years, but reunited in 1981. This period was the most famous, with a fresh and catchy sound that fit the atmosphere of the 1980s. Abuelo recruited young musicians who were just starting out, and the result was a group that became a reference for Argentine rock. The band's style was light, with songs that stayed in people's heads. The combination between Abuelo and Andrés Calamaro was key, although the latter was still a newcomer. Songs like «Mil horas» or «Hymn of My Heart» became classics, blending pop rhythms with an energy that appealed to everyone.

The band not only stood out for its sound, but also for its way of playing, which seemed natural and effortless. In the 1980s, The Grandfathers of Nothing earned recognition from critics and the public. Their albums Vasos y besos and The Grandfathers of Nothing appeared in lists of the best Argentine rock albums. Their concert at the Opera was recorded as one of the most important moments in the history of local rock. Although no awards are mentioned, their presence in rankings like Rolling Stone Argentina shows how their legacy remains relevant. The band emerged in a moment when Argentine rock still didn't have its definitive form.

Biography

Among the first to explore the beat and psychedelic styles, The Grandfathers of Nothing wasn't the only one, but their reinvention in the 1980s made them a distinctive voice. Their simple yet effective way of playing gave them a special place in collective memory. Today, their songs still sound as if they were from just yesterday, and that says a lot.
