Snoop Dogg

When you listen to the music of Snoop Dogg, you encounter a very distinctive vocal style. His way of rapping, with that relaxed and melodic cadence, is almost a trademark. It's not just the rhythm, but how the words flow, often touching on themes ranging from the recreational use of certain substances to armed violence. He became a key figure in West Coast hip-hop, helping to shape the sound of *G-funk* and *gangsta rap*.

His breakthrough in the music scene came in 1992, alongside Dr. Dre. Early collaborations, such as the single *"Deep Cover"* and his later involvement in Dr. Dre’s album *The Chronic*, where *"Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang"* stood out, put him on the map. His debut album, Doggystyle, released in 1993 and produced by Dre himself, was so impactful that it shot straight to the top of the Billboard 200, selling 806,000 copies in its first week. The album spawned well-known tracks like *"What's My Name?"* and *"Gin and Juice"*. His next work, Tha Doggfather (1996), also debuted at number one.

Biography

After his time at Death Row Records, Snoop Dogg explored new paths. He signed with No Limit Records and continued releasing albums that resonated, such as Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998), No Limit Top Dogg (1999), and Tha Last Meal (2000). A pivotal moment arrived in 2004 with the album R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, which brought us the hit single *"Drop It Like It's Hot"* alongside Pharrell, marking his first number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Later, he ventured into a change of artistic identity, adopting the name Snoop Lion to release a reggae album, Reincarnated, in 2013, which also had an associated documentary. He then returned to his usual name with the album Bush (2015), also produced by Pharrell, and explored the gospel genre with Bible of Love (2018). In 2022, he took a significant step by acquiring Death Row Records and released the album BODR. Throughout his career, he has sold over 35 million records worldwide.

His career has earned him important accolades, including seventeen Grammy nominations, two Sports Emmy Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Beyond his prolific music career, Snoop Dogg has appeared in numerous film and television productions, and even served as a coach on the show *The Voice*. Born as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Long Beach, California, his nickname "Snoopy" was given to him by his mother in childhood due to his resemblance and fondness for the cartoon character. From a young age, he showed an interest in music, singing and playing the piano in church, influenced by his mother, who was a choir member. It was in elementary school where he began rapping, discovering the power of his words by seeing how people reacted.
