The story behind
When Dr. Dre set out to create The Chronic, his first solo work after leaving N.W.A, he was looking for a groundbreaking sound. The recording sessions were split between Death Row Studios in Los Angeles and Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. This album, released on December 15, 1992, under Death Row Records alongside Interscope Records and distributed by Priority Records, not only marked the beginning of Dr. Dre's individual career but also served as a springboard for a young emerging artist: Snoop Doggy Dogg. The latter's participation was fundamental, opening the doors to his own trajectory in West Coast rap.
Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., whom we know as Snoop Dogg, already had a path laid out before crossing paths with Dr. Dre. Born in Long Beach in 1971, his connection with music intertwined with life experiences, including his membership in the Crips gang and a period in Wayside County jail. It was after his release in 1992 that Dr. Dre discovered him, inviting him to collaborate on The Chronic and the soundtrack for the film Deep Cover. The song Where the Hoes At, with a duration of 4:29, is an example of that synergy that defined an era of hip-hop.
