The story behind
The song Straight Ballin’, with its 2:42 duration, stands out as a key piece in the launch of important careers within West Coast hip-hop. It was recorded in Los Angeles, at Death Row Records studios, and also went through Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. This track is a sample of the sound that defined Dr. Dre's solo debut, an album that saw the light of day on December 15, 1992, under the Death Row Records label, with distribution by Priority Records and support from Interscope Records.
This work marked Dr. Dre's departure from the group N.W.A and Ruthless Records, due to financial disagreements. The album did not shy away from throwing disses towards Ruthless Records and its founder, Eazy-E. Amidst all this, the figure of Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., better known as Snoop Dogg, emerges. Discovered by Dr. Dre after his time in Wayside County Jail, Snoop Dogg actively participated in this album, which served as a platform to launch his own musical career. Before this, Snoop Dogg, originally from Long Beach, already had ties to the Crips gang and had faced legal troubles for cocaine possession. His collaboration on The Chronic and the soundtrack for the film Deep Cover was fundamental to his recognition.
