The story behind
Can’t Stop That Gangsta Shit, according to DoReSol
The song *Can’t Stop That Gangsta Shit* was conceived at a key moment for West Coast hip-hop. It was part of Dr. Dre's debut album, titled The Chronic, released on December 15, 1992. The recording sessions took place between Death Row Records studios in Los Angeles and Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. This work marked Dr. Dre's departure from N.W.A. and his previous label, Ruthless Records, following financial disagreements. The album did not shy away from subtle jabs at Ruthless Records and its founder, Eazy-E.
It was in this context that Snoop Doggy Dogg, then an emerging artist, found a platform to boost his own career. His participation in The Chronic was fundamental, and *Can’t Stop That Gangsta Shit*, with a duration of 4:06, is an example of that energy. Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., known artistically as Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion), originally from Long Beach and born in 1971, already had a past linked to the Crips gang and personal experiences that shaped his perspective. His musical career took off in 1992, shortly after his release, when Dr. Dre discovered him and invited him to collaborate not only on The Chronic but also on the theme song for the movie soundtrack Deep Cover.
