Chichi Peralta

Chichi Peralta is a musician who has woven a fascinating sonic tapestry, blending the vibrant energy of tropical rhythms with influences from around the world. His musical proposal is an invitation to explore diverse textures, where merengue meets pop, son dialogues with jazz, and African rhythms, hip hop, bachata, guaguancó, and even sounds from India and Japan are added. This versatility is no coincidence; from a very young age, at four years old, he already showed his inclination for music by building his first instrument, a tambora. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he consolidated his experience as a percussionist in important groups such as Fernando Echavarría y la Familia André, and had an eight-year stint with Juan Luis Guerra.

A key moment in his career was the international release of his first album, Pa' otro la'o, on July 15, 1997. In this work, he not only stood out as a performer but also took on the roles of producer and arranger, bringing to life songs like Amor narcótico and La ciguapa. Later, in 2000, he presented De vuelta al barrio, an album that resonated strongly and earned him a Latin Grammy in 2001. This record is a clear example of his experimental approach, fusing son with jazz, merengue with guaguancó, and bachata with Brazilian and Arabic rhythms. For this ambitious production, he collaborated with the London Symphony Orchestra and the choirs of Luz África, with recording sessions taking place in Paris, France.
