The story behind
The song *La ciguapa* by Chichi Peralta, with its duration of 4 minutes and 35 seconds, invites us on a sonic journey where diverse influences intertwine. On his second album, De Vuelta Al Barrio, released on April 18, 2000, Peralta demonstrated a bold fusion of genres. Here, son meets jazz, merengue dialogues with guaguancó, and pop embraces African rhythms, while bachata is enriched with Brazilian and Arabic touches. To bring these textures to life, the participation of the London Symphony Orchestra and the choirs of Luz Africa was enlisted, with recording sessions taking place in Paris, France.
The career of Chichi Peralta, born on July 9, 1966, in Santo Domingo, is that of a Dominican musician and producer with a deep connection to merengue and bachata. His approach to music began at a very young age, at 4 years old, when he was already building his own instruments. During the 80s and 90s, he established himself as a professional percussionist, being part of notable groups such as Fernando Echavarría y la Familia André, Trilogía, and notably, 4.40 by Juan Luis Guerra, where he remained for 8 years. In 1997, he took an important step with the international release of his first album, Pa' Otro La'o, also taking on roles as producer and arranger.
