Carlos Vives

Carlos Vives is an artist who has known how to fuse genres and cultures, creating a very distinctive sound that resonates in many corners. His connection with Caribbean music from Colombia, especially vallenato, is deep, but he did not stop there. What makes his proposal interesting is how he took those foundations and mixed them with influences from rock, pop, and other rhythms from his homeland. This experimentation, which at first may have surprised the most traditional, ended up being the key to his music crossing borders and reaching very diverse audiences.

His path in the world of show business began in acting, where he had the opportunity to play several characters in soap operas and TV series since 1982. Roles such as Julián in Tiempo sin huella or Javier Ramírez in Gallito Ramírez made him known in Colombia and, in the case of the latter, even projected him internationally, especially in places like Puerto Rico and the United States. It was during this stage, in 1986, that he recorded his first album, Por fuera y por dentro, marking the beginning of his parallel musical career to his acting one.

Biography

A major turning point in his career occurred in 1991, upon returning to Colombia. He was offered the lead role in the series Escalona, based on the life of vallenato composer Rafael Escalona. By performing the composer’s songs in the series, Vives decisively reoriented his career. It was after this experience that, in 1993, he released the album Clásicos de la Provincia. This work became a milestone, taking vallenato to a continental and global scale, and demonstrating the potential of his fusion of rhythms. This initial success opened the doors to important recognitions, such as Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, consolidating his place as an artist who redefined Colombian music.
