More about Carlos Baute
Biography
In Dame de eso (2002), produced by Emilio Estefan, Baute took a more pop-oriented turn, though without completely abandoning the folklore that had defined him. The album, recorded in Miami and released first in Spain, gave him two number-one hits in that country and consolidated his presence in Europe. But it was Peligroso (2004) that showed his more personal side: all the songs were written and composed by him, with lyrics that explored love and sensuality from an unfiltered Latin perspective. The production in Los Angeles with Humberto Gatica gave it a more polished sound, but without losing the rawness that had always characterized him. Then, in Baute (2005), recorded in Madrid with Carlos Quintero, the Venezuelan demonstrated compositional maturity: songs like Te regalo—which ended up in the soundtrack of the Chilean telenovela Versus—and his appearances on shows like Gala Miss España or ¡Ala... Dina! turned him into a familiar face beyond music. By then, he was no longer just a Venezuelan singer in Spain: he was an artist who had carved his own path, between pop, folklore, and acting.
