One of the central pieces of this work is Gigantic, the only single released from the album. Although it didn't achieve great impact at the time, reaching only number 93 in the UK, time proved it right. The band, formed in 1986 in Boston, demonstrated an ability to create songs that would resonate far beyond the charts. Steve Albini himself, the producer of this record, would be called upon years later by Kurt Cobain to work on Nirvana's In Utero, a clear sign of the influence that Surfer Rosa and its producer would have on the alternative rock landscape.

This album, which initially did not have a major commercial impact, was reissued in 1992 by Elektra Records and, by 2005, had already been certified gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America. Artists such as Billy Corgan and PJ Harvey have cited Surfer Rosa as a source of inspiration, highlighting its defining character for alternative rock. The raw energy and bold compositions of this record make it a fundamental piece for understanding the evolution of the genre.
