The story behind

Break My Body, according to DoReSol

The first time you hear Break My Body, you're met with a raw energy that instantly grabs you. The sound is direct, lasting just two minutes and six seconds, but in that time it condenses a groundbreaking sonic proposal. You can notice the hand of Steve Albini in the engineering and production, who worked with the Pixies on their debut album, Surfer Rosa, released in March 1988. This album, released under the British label 4AD, already showed characteristic elements of the band, such as the inclusion of lyrics in Spanish and references to places like Puerto Rico. Furthermore, they explored unconventional recording techniques and a very particular drum sound, all while addressing themes like mutilation and voyeurism.

Although Surfer Rosa was released in an independent context, with distribution in the United States handled by Rough Trade Records, the album did not manage to chart in either country. From this work, a single song was released, a re-recorded version of Gigantic, which reached number 93 in the UK. Later, in 1992, Elektra Records reissued the album in the United States. The band, formed in Boston in 1986 by Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal, and Dave Lovering, was characterized by a style that fused influences from punk and surf rock. Despite not achieving great commercial success in their home country, their recognition in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom, was considerable, and their impact on alternative rock is undeniable, being recognized as a key influence for later bands.
