Magia

When one encounters Magia, Shakira's first work, they are met with a proposal born from the creative spark of a very young artist. This album, released in 1991, is a window into the ideas Shakira had been developing since she was eight years old, blending her own compositions with songs written for her. The lyrics explore youthful experiences, dreamed adventures, and nostalgia for coastal life. It was recorded under the Sony Music Colombia label when the artist was just thirteen years old, in a process that, despite the performer's youth, aimed to capture a sound ranging from pop to romantic ballads and pop rock.

About the album

Magia, according to DoReSol

The production of Magia had a tight budget, which meant a pre-production of only three weeks. The recording work took place at the Aga studios in Bogotá, with the collaboration of producers such as Gabriel Muñoz, Miguel Cubillos, and Pablo Tedeschi. Although the label described the process as simple, for Shakira it was a learning moment where she did not yet have full control over the final song selection. The album includes tracks like Sueños, which evokes the joy of coastal life, and Tus gafas oscuras, one of her earliest creations. For its promotion, presentations were organized in various cities in Colombia, including Barranquilla and Bogotá, with the participation of dancers and choirs.

Despite the promotional efforts and the potential already glimpsed in the young artist, Magia did not have a significant commercial impact, selling around 1200 copies. However, its value lies in being the starting point of a musical career, a record of Shakira's early artistic inclinations. The album has never been officially reissued, making it a collector's item for those looking to explore the origins of her sound.
