The story behind
Tú, according to DoReSol
This ballad, with its guitar-evoking melody, delves into the intimacy of total surrender. The lyrics, written by Shakira herself, describe how she offers her all to her beloved, from her possessions to her deepest thoughts and even her "madness." The musical composition, in which Dillon O'Brian also participated, originated from ideas that were originally intended for an O'Brian project that never saw the light of day. The production, shared between Shakira and Lester Méndez, took place at Crescent Moon Studios in Miami, Florida.
The path to Dónde Están los Ladrones?, the album that features Tú, was a process of sonic exploration. Following the success of her previous work, Pies Descalzos (1995), Shakira came into contact with Emilio Estefan, a key figure in the Hispanic market. Despite initial concerns about maintaining creative control, an agreement was reached where Estefan would act as manager and executive producer, but Shakira would retain the final say on her material and arrangements. This meticulous approach was reflected in the album's recording, which included the use of equipment such as vintage amplifiers and a forty-year-old German microphone, seeking a distinctive sound. Tú was released in 1998 as the second single from this album. The song resonated with the public, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and Latin Pop Airplay charts in the United States, and also topping the charts in countries like Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama.
