Ahí vamos

Here we go arrived in April 2006 with a sharp blow: after years of exploring more atmospheric sounds, Gustavo Cerati returned to his rock essence with a raw and direct album. Recorded in Argentina and released simultaneously in Mexico and his home country, the album revived the spirit of his most intense works, such as Canción animal and Dynamo, but with a maturity that made it resonate across all of Latin America, Spain, and even the United States. Advance sales in Argentina earned it platinum before it hit the shelves, and in Mexico it reached gold. It wasn’t just any comeback: it was a reminder of why his sound remained unique.

About the album

Ahí vamos, according to DoReSol

The lead single, Crimen, sparked euphoria. Released that same April, it became an instant anthem that crossed borders: from Chile to Colombia, passing through Spain, the song dominated radio waves and even won the award for Best Rock Song at the Latin Grammys. But it wasn’t the only hit. Adiós, La excepción, and Lago en el cielo kept the album at the top of the charts, while Me quedo aquí closed out the singles list with force. What’s curious is that, despite its massive impact, the album wasn’t aiming to conquer markets: it sought a sound that no longer existed, and it found it in the blend of sharp guitars, organic rhythms, and lyrics that oscillated between the poetic and the everyday. Even Día especial, the track co-written with Shakira for her album Fijación oral vol. 1, appeared at Live Earth in Hamburg in July 2007, where Cerati was the only Argentine on stage.

The tour that followed was epic: 76 shows across Latin America, Spain, and the United States, with stops at iconic venues like Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Argentina and The Forum in London. But the tour was cut short in June 2007 when the return of Soda Stereo, the band Cerati had left in 1997, was announced. Before that, in 2007, the tour DVD was released with recordings from four nights in Buenos Aires, capturing the live energy of an album that, more than just a record, was a bridge between his past and his future.
