The story behind

The song Dios nos libre sounds like a motorcycle ride along a mountain road at sunset: the bass traces clean lines that repeat like a steady heartbeat, while the guitar weaves figures that seem to float above that rhythm. There's something in its structure that avoids predictability; it's neither conventional rock nor sticky pop, but a balance between both where every note seems to breathe. The track starts with deceptive calm, almost minimalist, before opening up into a climax where Cerati's voice grows more urgent, as if he were telling something that couldn't wait.

This song appeared on Ahí vamos, the album Cerati released in April 2006 that, within days, went platinum in Argentina. It wasn't a planned success: the record hit stores with Sony Music, yet its raw and direct sound—inherited from his work with Soda Stereo on Canción animal and Dynamo—ended up resonating far beyond expectations. Across Latin America, where rock sometimes struggles to stay in the conversation, Dios nos libre slipped in uninvited, boosted by the lingering impact of its previous single, Crimen, which months earlier had won a Latin Grammy for Best Rock Song. It wasn’t meant to be the most listened to, but it ended up as one of those pieces that, without warning, stays in the memory.
