The story behind
Medium, according to DoReSol
The opening riff of Medium unfolds with a hypnotic cadence that seems suspended in midair, as if time were moving in slow motion. It is not just another track from the album Ahí vamos: that clean yet textured sound, with guitars intertwining in almost ethereal layers, sets it apart from the rest of the songs. Cerati plays with dynamics ranging from whispers to controlled explosions, crafting a sense of sonic journey where each note seems to carry its own weight. Most striking is how the bass and drums intertwine in a pulse that does not follow traditional meter, as if the rhythm were hand-drawn rather than measured with mechanical precision.
Medium was recorded in 2006, when Gustavo Cerati had already solidified his solo sound following the breakup of Soda Stereo. The track emerged during this moment of reinvention, where the artist recaptured the raw rock edge of his early work but with a technical maturity only experience can provide. The album Ahí vamos, released by Sony Music in April of that year, sold out so quickly that in Argentina it was already platinum before its official release. In Medium, that energy is felt in every transition: the tempo changes are not mere adornments but the very soul of the song. The track lasts 5:33, long enough for each instrument to breathe without haste, as if the recording studio had been a space for the music to breathe on its own.
