The Zombies

The Zombies are a rock band that was born in St Albans, England, in 1960. The lineup included Colin Blunstone, Rod Argent, Paul Atkinson, Chris White and Hugh Grundy. Although they did not achieve the same level of fame as other British bands of the time, their work stood out for the complexity of their arrangements and the harmony in their vocals.

In the United States, they received a very warm reception, especially for their sound that blended British rock with jazz and symphonic nuances. Songs like "Time Of The Season" became hits, reaching the top 3 of the charts. Their album Odessey and Oracle from 1968 remains a reference, even today. The magazine Rolling Stone included it in its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

More about The Zombies

Biography

But the band did not last long. They split up due to internal tensions and the difficulty of finding their place in the market. Although some fans were excited by bands that presented themselves as The Zombies, the bassist Chris White said in 1969 that the band no longer existed. In the following years, each member went on to explore as a solo artist, and Rod Argent was more successful than the others.

Several years later, Argent and Blunstone reunited again, this time with session musicians. They released new albums and went on tours. In 2004, Paul Atkinson passed away, but before that he had been in a final performance with the other original members. Over time, Grundy and White officially reunited in 2017, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Odessey and Oracle.

In 2019, The Zombies entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a recognition they had long awaited. Their story remains part of music, and their legacy lives on in those who listen to them.
