The story behind
When you dive into This Will Be Our Year, you encounter a melody that seems to float, with a warmth that invites you to stay. It's one of those songs that, despite its apparent simplicity, hides a very careful sonic construction. The recording, which took place between June and August 1967, was carried out in emblematic studios such as EMI (now Abbey Road Studios) and Olympic Studios in London. What's interesting is that The Zombies financed these sessions on their own, after having finished their contract with Decca Records. The result is a 2:06 minute piece that, although initially went somewhat unnoticed, has an optimistic energy that makes it stand out.
The release of Odessey and Oracle, the album of which This Will Be Our Year is a part, had a particular journey. It came out in the United Kingdom on April 19, 1968, under CBS Records, and a little later, on July 15, 1968, in the United States through Date Records. At first, both the singles and the full album received a lukewarm reception, both from critics and the public. However, time proved otherwise. It was later, in early 1969, when a single from this same album, Time of the Season, became a successful surprise in the United States, partly thanks to the recommendation of Al Kooper.
