The story behind

The melody of Changes, one of the pieces that make up the album Odessey and Oracle by The Zombies, unfolds with a reflective atmosphere. Its duration, just over three minutes, condenses a melancholic yet hopeful feeling, characteristic of the English band. The sound evokes a particular moment in their career, a time when the band was exploring new textures and sonic structures, seeking a unique language that would resonate beyond the trends of the moment.

The recording of Odessey and Oracle, which includes Changes, took place mainly between June and August 1967. The sessions were held in emblematic London studios such as EMI (now known as Abbey Road Studios) and Olympic Studios. It was a process financed by the band itself, after their departure from Decca Records. When the album was released, first in the United Kingdom on April 19, 1968, under CBS Records, and then in the United States on July 15, 1968, through Date Records, it did not immediately generate the expected impact. However, time proved the depth of these compositions, and songs like Time of the Season, boosted by the recommendation of Al Kooper, achieved unexpected recognition in the United States in early 1969.
