The story behind
The way The Zombies approached the creation of I Want Her She Wants Me reveals a remarkable independence. The recording sessions for the album to which it belongs, Odessey and Oracle, were self-financed after the band left Decca Records. Much of this work took place between June and August 1967, using the facilities of EMI (today known as Abbey Road Studios) and Olympic Studios in London. Although the album was released in April 1968 in the UK and July 1968 in the United States, it initially did not generate much attention or critical acclaim.
However, the story of I Want Her She Wants Me and its parent album, Odessey and Oracle, took an unexpected turn. After the band's dissolution, a producer from CBS named Al Kooper saw the potential in one of the songs, Time of the Season, recommending its release as a single in the United States. This track became a surprise hit in early 1969, which in turn rekindled interest in the entire album. The duration of I Want Her She Wants Me is 2 minutes and 50 seconds.
