Rammstein

The music of Rammstein is distinguished by a powerful sound that helped define the Neue Deutsche Härte genre, a style that fuses industrial metal with elements of electronic music. Since their formation in Berlin in 1994, the band has maintained an unchanged lineup, with Till Lindemann as the lead vocalist, Richard Kruspe on lead guitar, Paul Landers on rhythm guitar, Oliver Riedel on bass, Christoph Schneider on drums, and Christian "Flake" Lorenz on keyboards. Their creative process is characterized by Till Lindemann writing and performing the lyrics over the instrumental bases developed by the rest of the band. This cohesion is reflected in their powerful live performances, famous for their extensive use of pyrotechnics, which add a theatrical dimension to their sound. Although their lyrics are predominantly in German, they have also explored other languages, and the band's name, which means "ramming stone," evokes the intensity of their proposal.

Before forging this unique sound, some of its members participated in punk rock projects such as Feeling B and First Arsch. Rammstein's beginnings were marked by winning a local contest, which allowed them to record demos and eventually sign with Motor Music. In 1995, they released their debut album, Herzeleid, produced by Jacob Hellner. Although initial sales were modest, the energy of their live concerts quickly gained them followers, propelling the album to number 6 in Germany. Success was solidified with Sehnsucht in 1997, which debuted at number 1 in Germany and led to an extensive world tour lasting nearly four years, from which singles such as Engel and Du hast emerged, as well as the live album Live aus Berlin in 1999.

More about Rammstein

Biography

After this period, the band signed with Universal Music and released Mutter in 2001, an album from which six singles charted across Europe, with Sonne reaching number 2 in Germany. In 2004, Reise, Reise arrived, featuring two singles, Mein Teil and Amerika, which also reached number 2 in Germany; Mein Teil, in addition, became their first number 1 single in Spain. The album Rosenrot, released in 2005, had Benzin as its main single, which reached number 6 in Germany, and was followed by the live album Völkerball in 2006. Their sixth studio album, Liebe ist für alle da, from 2009, included the single Pussy, which became their first number 1 in Germany, despite the controversy generated by its music video. This album also faced the removal of the song Ich tu dir weh in Germany due to its explicit lyrics, following a decision by the German Federal Review Board for Media Harmful to Minors.

After 2009, the band entered a period of hiatus in recording new material, focusing on tours and the release of compilation albums such as Made in Germany and live albums like Rammstein in Amerika. A decade later, in 2019, Rammstein returned with the single Deutschland, which became their second number 1 in Germany. That same year, their seventh studio album, untitled, ranked number 1 in fourteen countries. The band's creativity remained active even during the 2020 lockdowns, leading to the spontaneous composition and recording of their eighth studio album, Zeit, released in April 2022. With over 15 million records sold by 2009 and multiple gold and platinum certifications worldwide, Rammstein has demonstrated sustained commercial success, backed by a musical and stage proposal that continues to captivate their audience.
