Sehnsucht

The sound of Rammstein, a distinctive proposal within industrial metal, was consolidated with the release of their second album, Sehnsucht, on August 22, 1997. This work, whose German title translates as "Longing", "Desire", or "Hunger", comes from Germany and had considerable media success in Europe. One of the most striking features of the album is its cover art: the booklet unfolds to reveal photographs of each band member, where their faces appear altered with objects. These images, created by the Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein, show what appear to be original surgical instruments, which at one time belonged to Ferdinand Sauerbruch, a renowned surgeon. In these representations, elements such as bent forks covering Till Lindemann's eyes, or a kind of muzzle, can be seen, while other versions of the cover, such as Christoph Schneider's, also explore this aesthetic of "facial attire" with wires. The reverse of the album, in contrast, shows the image of a white sand beach.
