Paolo Conte is a musician who doesn’t stick to just one craft. A jazz-trained pianist, painter, and former lawyer, his sound blends swing, melancholy, and a humor that seems plucked from an old painting. He’s not the typical singer-songwriter who repeats formulas: his songs sound like salon jazz mixed with lyrics that dance between the poetic and the ironic, as if every chord wore an invisible top hat.

What defines his career isn’t just his deep voice and phrasing style, but the moment in 1974 when he decided to leave law behind and dive headfirst into music. By then, he had already written hits for others—like Azzurro or Insieme a te non ci sto più—but it was when he took on the role of performer that his style found its own path.
