The story behind
Madeleine, according to DoReSol
The melody of Madeleine, lasting 3 minutes and 57 seconds, transports us to a sonic universe where jazz and swing intertwine with South American rhythms. This piece, included in the album Paris milonga, marks a point of maturity in the musical language of Paolo Conte, who had already explored these influences in previous works. The album was released in 1981, and for its recording, Conte returned to the Format studio in Turin, a place he had worked with at the beginning of his career. There, tracks such as Via con me and Pretend were recorded, featuring Happy Ruggiero on the eminent. The rest of the album's compositions were recorded at the RCA studios in Rome.
Paolo Conte, born in Asti in 1937, is a multifaceted artist who also works as a lyricist and plays several instruments. His training as a pianist leans toward jazz, and his career as a singer-songwriter has been notably innovative. Before dedicating himself fully to music, he worked as a lawyer. In 1974, he decided to leave the legal profession to fully commit to his artistic career, often collaborating with lyricists like Vito Pallavicini. His work has garnered great appreciation in France and on international stages. In addition to his musical work, Conte has ventured into other artistic expressions, receiving in 2007 an honorary title in Painting for his multimedia project Razmataz, awarded by the Accademia di belle arti di Catanzaro.
