John Mayer

John Mayer moves between guitar and vocals with a dexterity that feels very personal. From his beginnings, a constant search for his defining sound is evident, exploring from acoustic sensitivity to the roots of blues and rock. His early works, such as the 1999 EP Inside Wants Out and the albums Room for Squares (2001) and Heavier Things (2003), were a starting point where he demonstrated his ability to compose catchy melodies and relatable lyrics. The song "Your Body Is a Wonderland," in fact, earned him a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

By 2005, Mayer took an interesting turn, delving deeper into blues, a genre that had always influenced him. The formation of the John Mayer Trio and the release of the live album Try! marked this phase. Then, with Continuum (2006), he consolidated this direction, receiving excellent acclaim and obtaining, among others, the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. This record, which he wrote and produced himself, with the collaboration of Steve Jordan, feels like a natural evolution of his sound, maintaining his essence but adding a more pronounced rock layer.

More about John Mayer

Biography

Throughout his career, Mayer has shown a remarkable ability to reinvent himself. After a period of reflection in 2010, he was inspired by 1970s pop music to create Born and Raised (2012), an album that, despite delays due to vocal health issues, reached the top of the charts. Then, Paradise Valley (2013) explored country and folk influences, while The Search for Everything (2017) was presented as a concept about romantic breakups. More recently, Sob Rock (2021) paid homage to 80s soft rock. Beyond his solo work, Mayer has collaborated with a wide range of artists and, since 2015, has been part of the band Dead & Company alongside former members of the Grateful Dead. His guitar prowess has led him to be recognized on lists of the best guitarists, and his interests also extend to writing and watch collecting.
