The story behind
I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You), according to DoReSol
In *I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)*, John Mayer addresses someone to whom he warns about the risks of getting emotionally involved with him. The lyrics raise an internal doubt, as if he himself couldn't trust his own actions when it comes to loving, suggesting a temperamental and unpredictable nature that could lead to a painful outcome. This song, which appears as the second track on the album Continuum, explores that vulnerability and the complexity of personal relationships.
The recording sessions for Continuum extended from January 2005 to July 2006. The creative process involved several emblematic studios: The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, Avatar Studios and Right Track/Sound on Sound in New York City, and Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The album was produced by Steve Jordan, who, in addition to being a drummer, contributed a musical direction that leaned more towards blues and soul, marking an evolution from his previous work more focused on pop rock. Bassist Pino Palladino also participated in this project, with whom Mayer, along with Jordan, had previously toured under the name John Mayer Trio, even releasing a live album, Try!. In fact, two tracks from that live album were re-recorded in studio versions for Continuum. The duration of *I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)* is 4:52.
