The story behind
I'm Gonna Find Another You, according to DoReSol
This piece, I'm Gonna Find Another You, is presented as the most concise closing of the album Continuum, with a duration of just 2:43. The song narrates John Mayer's determination to overcome a romantic breakup, focusing on the idea of finding a new connection that matches the intensity of the previous one. It is a melancholic-tinged ending for a record that had already explored feelings of insecurity, individual optimism, and a somewhat pessimistic view of the era. Originally, this song closed the album, but after a 2008 reissue, that spot was taken by Say.
The recording of Continuum, the album to which this song belongs, spanned between January 2005 and July 2006. The sessions took place in various studios: The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, Avatar Studios and Right Track/Sound on Sound in New York City, and Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The producer of this work was Steve Jordan, who also handled the drums. This album marked an evolution in Mayer's sound, integrating blues and soul influences more deeply, in contrast to his previous, more pop-rock oriented work. In this context, the participation of bassist Pino Palladino is also noteworthy, who, along with Mayer and Jordan, had been on tour the previous year under the name John Mayer Trio, even releasing a live album. In fact, two tracks from that live project are included in Continuum in their studio versions.
