The story behind
In Repair, according to DoReSol
The song In Repair, found on the album Continuum, speaks to us about an internal healing process. The lyrics suggest that there are parts of our mind, like "shadows" and "corners" that trouble us, and prevent one from feeling completely oneself. It is a reflection on how one recomposes oneself. This musical piece, with a duration of 6 minutes and 10 seconds, was created in collaboration with Charlie Hunter, being one of the few songs on the album on which John Mayer did not work alone on the composition. Additionally, it features the participation of James Valentine, lead guitarist of Maroon 5 and a friend of Mayer, with whom he shared studies at the Berkeley College.
The album Continuum, released on September 12, 2006, was recorded between January 2005 and July 2006 in different studios: The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, Avatar Studios and Right Track/Sound on Sound in New York City, and Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The production was handled by Steve Jordan, who also took care of the drums. This work marked a shift in Mayer's sound, leaning more towards blues and soul, in contrast to his previous pop-rock style. Pino Palladino, bassist, is also a fundamental part of this album; he, along with Mayer and Jordan, had toured the previous year under the name John Mayer Trio, releasing a live album called Try!.
In fact, two tracks from that live album were included in studio versions on Continuum.
