O passo do Lui

With O Passo do Lui, released in 1984, Os Paralamas do Sucesso consolidated a sonic proposal that would resonate throughout Brazil. This, their second album, marked a turning point from their debut, Cinema Mudo, imprinting a more defined identity on the group. A greater presence of the rhythm section is perceived, with bass and drums taking center stage, laying the groundwork for compositions that would become benchmarks of Brazilian rock. The album's title is a nod to a friend of the band, Lui, whom they acknowledge as a good dancer, and his figure even appears on the cover.

About the album

O passo do Lui, according to DoReSol

This work brought several songs that achieved great diffusion, such as Ska, Meu Erro, Me Liga, and Romance Ideal. The band took the music of O Passo do Lui on an extensive tour across the country, especially after their outstanding participation in Rock in Rio in 1985. At that festival, where they gave two highly celebrated performances, the song Óculos was already positioning itself strongly. It is estimated that the album sold over 250,000 copies, and of its ten songs, eight had a notable radio impact, with Menino e Menina and O Passo do Lui being the exceptions.

The production of O Passo do Lui included the peculiarity that the first two hundred copies were distributed without the inner booklet due to a printing error, presenting the song information and credits directly. All compositions are signed by Herbert Vianna, with the exception of those specified otherwise.
