The story behind

Me liga, according to DoReSol

Me liga sounds like an urgent call you can't ignore. The bass of Bi Ribeiro and the drums of João Barone intertwine in a rhythm that moves forward without pauses, as if the song itself were chasing you. It's not a track that stays on the surface: every note seems designed to hook you from the first measure, with that ska vibe that the Paralamas had already been shaping in their early albums. The mix of agile guitars and sharp brass gives this track a distinct shine compared to what Brazilian rock usually offered at the time.

This song was born in O Passo do Lui, the album that in 1984 gave the Paralamas their definitive sound. It wasn't a coincidence: after the lackluster success of Cinema Mudo, the band refined their formula. Here, the bass and drums take center stage, and the lyrics — like in Me liga — stop being simple accompaniments to become the driving force of the song. The trio from Rio de Janeiro no longer sounded like any other rock band: they blended Latin rhythms with punk energy, and this track is a perfect example. By 1985, when they performed at Rock in Rio, Óculos was already flying on the radio, but Me liga had already been hooking listeners for months. It lasts 3:49, just enough for the hook not to fade away and long enough for Bi Ribeiro's bass and Barone's drums to be etched in memory.
