The story behind
Romance ideal, according to DoReSol
Os Paralamas do Sucesso recorded Romance ideal at a pivotal moment: their second album, O passo do Lui, released in 1984, defined their sound forever. Until then, with Cinema mudo (1982), the trio of Herbert Vianna, Bi Ribeiro, and João Barone was still finding its footing, but this album solidified them with a more powerful rock sound, where Bi's bass and Barone's drums took center stage without losing the energy that defined them. The song shines in this context because it captures that transition: ska and rock blend with arrangements that would later become the band's trademark, especially in how the brass and guitars intertwine without forcing the rhythm. Exact duration: 4 minutes and 11 seconds, long enough for the melody to unfold effortlessly yet without losing momentum.
