The story behind
O passo do Lui, according to DoReSol
The first album by Paralamas didn't quite convince, but their second release, O passo do Lui, was what truly defined the band's direction. Recorded in 1984, this album marked a clear shift: drums and bass gained prominence, and the songs began to sound with an energy not previously heard in their music. It wasn't just a change in sound, but the birth of a distinct identity that would set them apart within Brazilian rock.
The album arrived at a key moment for the band. In 1985, Paralamas played at Rock in Rio, where songs like Óculos were already being played on the radio. Their two performances at the festival became a turning point: people would remember them for the power of their live performance, and this led them to tour the country with the album's tour. Among the singles that propelled the album were Meu Erro, Romance Ideal, Ska, Óculos, Mensagem de Amor, and Me Liga, songs that helped solidify their place in the music scene.
