The story behind
Mensagem de amor, according to DoReSol
Os Paralamas do Sucesso recorded in 1984 their second album, O Passo do Lui, with the idea of leaving behind the rawer sound of their debut, Cinema Mudo. This change was not just musical: the band sought a balance where the drums and bass would gain weight, but without losing the energy that defined them. The result was an album that defined their style, with songs that became milestones of Brazilian rock in the 80s. Among them, Mensagem de amor stood out not only for its catchy melody, but for that blend of ska and clean guitars that was already emerging in the previous album. The song lasts 4 minutes and 19 seconds, enough time for Bi Ribeiro's bass and João Barone's drums to set a rhythm that can be felt in the chest, while Herbert Vianna delivers verses that sound like an intimate confession.
