Bee Gees não foi apenas um trio de irmãos cantando em uníssono, mas um laboratório de harmonias onde cada voz tinha um papel preciso. Nos primeiros anos, Robin carregava a melodia com um vibrato cristalino que se destacava nas canções, enquanto Barry explorava o falsete soul anos antes de o R&B se popularizar. Essa dualidade —uma voz lírica de um lado, aguda do outro— acabou definindo sua identidade. Quando, nos anos 70, Barry afinou seu falsete até transformá-lo em uma marca registrada, o mundo os reconheceu na hora: não eram três irmãos, mas uma única textura sonora flutuando entre o pop e a dança.

A reviravolta chegou quando Saturday Night Fever os catapultou além das paradas. O disco não só vendeu milhões; sua trilha sonora se infiltrou em cada canto onde as pessoas queriam se mexer. Os cinco Grammys que ganharam por aquele álbum não foram um prêmio qualquer: incluíram o de Álbum do Ano, algo raro para bandas de dance. O curioso é que esse sucesso os obrigou a se repensar. Passaram de compositores para outros artistas a se tornarem um fenômeno que definia épocas, o que os levou a gravar Spirits Having Flown (1979), um disco onde cada canção parecia feita para ficar na memória desde os primeiros compassos.

Biografia

Por trás desses sucessos havia anos de trabalho silencioso. Na Austrália, antes da fama, gravaram Spicks and Specks (1966), um disco que os deixou no radar local, mas sem explosão. Quando voltaram à Inglaterra em 1967 com Bee Gees' 1st, o produtor Robert Stigwood os empurrou a polir aquele som que já cheirava a algo grande. Mais tarde, em Main Course (1975), incorporaram sintetizadores e ritmos funk antes mesmo de o gênero estar estabelecido. Até em fases menos comerciais, como Still Waters (1997), demonstraram que sua fórmula não era moda: era arquitetura vocal. A morte de Maurice em 2003 os separou temporariamente, mas o nome continuou vivo até que o tempo também levou Robin em 2012. Hoje, com apenas Barry e alguns ex-integrantes ativos, seu legado segue vivo em cada acorde que alguém cantarola sem saber que, outrora, três irmãos o cantaram pela primeira vez.
