Los Hermanos

Los Hermanos started in Rio de Janeiro in 1997, five boys who studied together at PUC-Rio. Marcelo Camelo, who was studying journalism, and Rodrigo Barba, who was studying psychology, joined with three other friends to form a band that mixed the weight of hardcore with soft lyrics about love. Among them was a saxophonist, and later Bruno Medina joined, who played keyboards and was studying advertising. Over time, Rodrigo Amarante joined on vocals, guitar and percussion, and Patrick Laplan on bass. Some of the original members, such as the trumpeter Márcio and the saxophonists Carlos and Victor, left, and the band recorded their first demos: "Chora" and "Amor e Folia".

The demos became known in the underground scene of Rio and the boys were invited to play at festivals such as the "Superdemos" and Abril Pro Rock. In 1999, they signed with the record label Abril Music and released their first album, Los Hermanos. The album was produced by Rick Bonadio, a producer known for working with bands that became phenomena. According to him, it was he who convinced the band to include "Anna Júlia" in the album. The song, inspired by a relationship of the producer, became the single of introduction. The song not only reached the radios, but also events such as fairs, stadiums and micaretas, where they played in front of more than 80 thousand people.

More about Los Hermanos

Biography

"Anna Júlia" was already in the top positions of the main radios in just half a semester. Its music video, with Mariana Ximenes, was repeated on open channels and MTV. The album sold 300 thousand copies that year and achieved two singles on the chart of hits. It also received a nomination for the Grammy of 2000. At the Premio Multishow de Música Brasileira 2000, Marcelo Camelo felt a bit nervous to win in the category of best music, facing Chico Buarque. He said: "Cara, I don't know what to say. I feel a bit ashamed to win a prize in a category where Chico Buarque is competing".
