The story behind
Sentimental, according to DoReSol
The song Sentimental stands out for its conceptual black-and-white video, shot in a nearly documentary style. Directed by Nilson Primitivo and Sergio Barbosa Lutz —the same team behind the documentary Ventura—, the clip follows a non-linear narrative inspired by a previous short film by guitarist Rodrigo Amarante, titled Jorge Manager. In it, the protagonist is Nilson Primitivo himself, who blends into everyday situations to portray the band in their daily lives. Although the result was respected, the video did not gain much traction in music programming, partly because the album Bloco do Eu Sozinho faced tensions with its label, Abril Music, over the promotion of its works.
Recorded in 2001, Sentimental is part of Los Hermanos' second album, a work that blended alternative rock with touches of indie and was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of best rock or alternative music album in Portuguese. Clocking in at five minutes and nine seconds, the song was the album's second single and the second composition by Rodrigo Amarante to explore a broader range of sounds, following Quem Sabe, his first recorded track. Producer Alexandre Kassin gave it a clean yet organic approach, while the label Abril Music, together with Bertelsmann Music Group, handled its distribution.
