Vida

The album *Vida* by Sui Generis, released in 1972, marked the beginning of this Argentine duo's career. Recorded between August and September of that same year at the Phonalex Studios in Buenos Aires, the album is distinguished by its sound that fuses folk with elements of progressive rock. In a context where more powerful-sounding bands predominated, such as Color Humano or Pescado Rabioso, the choice for acoustic songs proved to be a bold move. The production was handled by Jorge Álvarez, who had also founded the Mandioca label, and featured the collaboration of musicians from groups like Manal and Billy Bond y La Pesada del Rock and Roll. This work laid the foundation for the projection of Charly García and his partner, and is perceived as a reflection of an era, with songs that integrated so seamlessly into the cultural landscape that they still resonate today in gatherings and spontaneous singing.

About the album

Vida, according to DoReSol

Within *Vida*, some songs stand out for their particular resonance. *Canción para mi muerte*, for example, became an emblem of the album, capturing a sensibility that connected deeply with the audience. The album's structure unfolds through folk melodies with progressive touches, offering an auditory experience that departed from the conventional for the time. The duo, which emerged at the Instituto Social Militar Dr. Dámaso Centeno and was formed under the influence of Swinging London and the La Cueva scene, evolved from an electric band to a more intimate project. Their participation in the third "B.A. Rock" festival and in the film *Hasta que se ponga el sol* were important steps in their consolidation.

In 2007, the Argentine edition of Rolling Stone recognized the importance of *Vida* by including it at number 66 on its list of "The 100 Greatest Albums of Argentine Rock." This recognition underscores the album's lasting impact, not only on the duo's career but also on the history of rock in Argentina. The recording of this material, with a total duration of 31 minutes and 20 seconds, was made for the Microfón label, and its official release took place in February 1973.
