The story behind
Mariel y el capitán, according to DoReSol
The story of *Mariel y el capitán* takes us to a foundational moment of rock in our country. It was part of Vida, the first album by Sui Generis, which was released in 1972. This work not only boosted the popularity of the duo and Charly García, but also became a reflection of its time, with songs that integrated so deeply into the culture that they are still heard around campfires today.
Sui Generis was born at the Instituto Social Militar Dr. Dámaso Centeno, with an imprint influenced by Swinging London and the atmosphere of La Cueva. Although initially an electric band, it soon transformed into an acoustic duo. It was during a tour of Mar del Plata that Jorge Álvarez signed them for Microfón, marking the beginning of an era that would define music. The duration of *Mariel y el capitán* is 2:44. In 2007, the Argentine edition of Rolling Stone recognized Vida as one of the 100 greatest albums of Argentine rock, placing it at number 66.
