The story behind
This musical piece, Song for My Death, is taken from the first record work by Sui Generis, an album that saw the light of day in 1972 under the Microfón label. What's interesting about this debut is how, from the outset, the band managed to capture an essence that would resonate far beyond its time. The music, born from the pen of Charly García, along with the voice and proposal of Sui Generis, became a benchmark. The song's duration, 3 minutes and 36 seconds, is concise yet effective in conveying its message.
The context of its creation takes us to an Argentine that was beginning to define its sound. Sui Generis, initially an electric band formed at the Instituto Social Militar Dr. Dámaso Centeno, with echoes of Swinging London and the habitués of La Cueva, soon transformed into an acoustic duo. It was during a tour of Mar del Plata that Jorge Álvarez signed them for Talent Micr, marking the beginning of a path that would lead them to fame. This album, and particularly this song, is perceived as the voice of an era, with melodies that to this day are part of gatherings and shared moments. In 2007, the Argentine edition of Rolling Stone recognized the importance of this work, placing it at number 66 on its list of the 100 best albums of Argentine rock.
