The story behind
On the debut of Sui Generis, the album Vida, released in 1972, lies a piece that invites imagining a singular character: "Natalio Ruiz, the little man with the gray hat". This song, with a duration of 3:44, presents itself as a window into the duo's creativity in its early days. The band was formed at the Instituto Social Militar Dr. Dámaso Centeno, influenced by the spirit of Swinging London and the atmosphere of La Cueva, although it soon evolved towards a more intimate format. It was during a tour of Mar del Plata that Jorge Álvarez recruited them for the Microfón label, bringing this first work to light.
The album Vida not only marked the beginning of the popularity of Sui Generis and Charly García, but it was also recognized years later. In 2007, the Argentine edition of Rolling Stone included it in its list of the 100 best albums of Argentine rock. Songs like "Natalio Ruiz, the little man with the gray hat" became integrated into the collective imagination, becoming part of that repertoire that endures in gatherings and shared moments.
