La musica della Electric Light Orchestra, conosciuta come ELO, si distingue per una particolare fusione di rock e pop con arrangiamenti classici, il tutto avvolto in un'estetica futuristica. Questa band, formatasi a Birmingham, Inghilterra, nel 1970, nacque dal desiderio di Jeff Lynne e Roy Wood di creare canzoni rock moderne che incorporassero strumenti elettrici con influenze classiche. A loro si unì il batterista Bev Bevan.
