The story behind
Luis Alberto Spinetta wrote La luz de la manzana in 1987, a year before the album Téster de violencia was released. The song was recorded in 1988 and became part of that work. In the studio, Spinetta played guitar, vocals and programming, while other musicians completed the sound: Machi on bass, Mono on keyboards, Guillermo Arrom on guitar and Jota Morelli on drums. The final solo was done by Spinetta himself.
The title is inspired by a place in Buenos Aires, the Manzana de las Luces, a historical site that in the colonial era had the first college, the first university and an old church. For Spinetta, light is a key symbol, something he has always used in his music. The apple, on the other hand, recalls his interest in nature, something that is reflected in songs like Campos verdes or Jardín de gente, and in albums like Durazno sangrando or Para los árboles.
