The story behind
Luis Alberto Spinetta wrote El marcapiel in 1988, as part of the album Téster de violencia. The song is played with his band, where each member contributes their part: he plays guitar, vocals and programming, Machi Rufino the bass, Mono Fontana keyboards, Guillermo Arrom guitar and Jota Morelli drums. The lyrics are told in the second person, as if speaking to someone, and revolves around a love that cannot reach the sun.
The song was recorded at a time when Argentina was in the middle of a politically murky climate, with impunity laws and military movements. For Spinetta, violence is not just the bad thing, but something that goes through life, from birth to death. In the album, the keyboardist Mono Fontana has a key role, as creator of the arrangements. The song appears as the fifth track of the album, at the end of the first side.
