Bersuit Vergarabat

Bersuit Vergarabat was born in the Barracas neighborhood, in the south of Buenos Aires, in 1988. Four friends who studied together at a school there started playing music together. At first they were called Los Prehistóricos, because they said their music was like from prehistory. Later they took the name they have now.

Their sound mixes rock with rhythms like tango, reggae, folklore and candombe. The lyrics are strong, talking about politics and how people feel in society. In the nineties they became famous for that. Sometimes their songs were censored, and even the TV channels that showed their videos got into trouble for criticizing politicians.

Biography

Although there was censorship, the band kept growing. It became an important name in Argentine rock and also in Latin America. Their way of dressing in shows is an interesting detail: they wear pajamas. He says it's a tribute to the inmates of a psychiatric residence, as if it were a mockery of those who wear leather and sunglasses.

The band has played in many countries: Argentina, Spain, United States, Germany, Japan, among others. Their success abroad depends on the fact that they keep reinventing themselves. In 2009 they took a break, each one dedicated themselves to their own projects. In 2011, without the main vocalist, they returned to play. In 2016, one of the guitarists left.

Their most known songs include «El tiempo no para», «Espíritu de esta selva», «Yo tomo», «Sr. Cobranza», among others. The history of the band began in the eighties, when childhood friends got together to play. In 1987 they started rehearsing in a place where artists gathered.
